Sugar Land Fire: Comments Regarding Recently Recalled Smoke Alarms

Sugar Land, TX - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with BRK Brands Inc., a subsidiary of First Alert Inc., announced a voluntary recall of the First Alert® ONELINK™ Battery-Powered Smoke and Combination Smoke/Carbon Monoxide (CO) Alarms.

“The Sugar Land Fire Department wants to assist in getting this important life safety information out to the public,” said Sugar Land Fire Chief Dannie C. Smith. “Additionally, we want to assure the public that neither of these (recalled) models have been installed by the fire department through its smoke alarm program.”

Individuals who own one of the recalled models should contact First Alert Inc./BRK Brands Inc. immediately to receive a replacement alarm. Until a new alarm is received, batteries in the alarm should be tested weekly by pressing the “test” button. If the alarm signals a low battery alert, immediately replace the batteries. The alarms should not be removed until a replacement alarm has been received.
